PVS Plastics expanding in Tennessee, Ohio

Germany's PVS-Kunststofftechnik GmbH & Co. KG is setting up a new factory in Johnson City, Tenn., and expanding its existing injection molding plant in Huber Heights, Ohio.

Rich Tursic, CEO of the company's U.S. unit, PVS Plastics Technology Corp., said the $9 million expansion in Huber Heights will include a 14,000-square-foot expansion and $4 million in equipment, including a 1,300-ton injection press.

PVS has had the Huber Heights location since 2004.

The 55,000-square-foot Johnson City plant will be ready for operations by October and will house highly automated lines and overmolding with a focus in commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning components.

The 61,000-square-foot Huber Heights plant has 21 injection molding machines ranging from 60-1,350 tons of clamping force. The expansion there, which will be complete by the end of the year, will free up space to direct ship to a Tier 1 auto supplier.

The new production area will be climate controlled, Tursic said.

"Our machines are pretty sensitive, they're high tech, and having a climate-controlled environment will prevent some of the humidity fluctuations that happen in processing," Tursic said.

The company plans to add 26 employees in Huber Heights; it currently employs 48.

PVS specializes in electric motor components and ventilation technology parts. It also has plants in Niedernhall, Germany; Taicang, China; and Celldömölk, Hungary.

Economic development funds from the Montgomery County, Ohio, Community and Economic Development Department will account for about 4 percent of the total project cost. Fifth Third Bank is providing financing for the expansion.

"The state of Ohio wants to increase jobs and retention, so they very much had a vested interest to keep us within the community," Tursic said.

The new plant will serve EBM-Papst, a German electric motor and fan manufacturer, as well as other customers.

"They're very much into commercial HVAC and that business is kind of booming and growing right now so we're glad to be partnering with them," Tursic said.
